This painting depicts the enormous grain storage elevators and weighing scales in Condon, Oregon. The historic complex has 3 distinct on view here- the oldest galvanized metal facade in the foreground, the slightly smaller cast concrete and early modern elevator in the middle, and the more contemporary cast concrete structure in the background.
Robinson comments, "The majestic scale of the towers is humbling when you're standing there. These structures were made with no eye for aesthetics and yet possess an iconic beauty when captured in the right time of year with just the right light. It's an idea that I borrowed from Whistler, who liked to paint the dark warehouses of London at night, imagining them to be grand Cathedrals."
