V. Maldonado: ojo de águila

18 April - 1 June 2024

Through my creative practices, I am able to observe the forces that shape me...

Froelick Gallery is pleased to present V. Maldonado’s recent body of work titled, ojo de águila (eagle's eye).

At the core of V. Maldonado’s studio practice is their unique aerial perspective and their commitment to creative healing. The artist has journeyed through deep reflections and past experiences, often looking back in order to run toward the future. What are now colossal paintings were once the artists' life lessons and the forces that shaped who they are. Those experiences are now visual poems painted with vibrant acrylic webs of line. The exhibition ojo de águila, is a wonderful demonstration of V. Maldonado's amorphous figures, interiors, and maps.

V. Maldonado is a multidisciplinary artist, freelance curator, and writer who lives and works in Portland, OR.  Maldonado was born in 1976 in Changuitrio, Michoacan, Mexico and grew up in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California after their family migrated to the U.S. when Maldonado was only 1 month old. V Maldonado's work is included in the permanent collections of the Portland Art Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, Museum of Fine Art, Houston TX and The Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Salem, OR.
