Bartow made this self portrait drawing after watching the play "Rhinocerous," by French avant-garde playright Eugène Ionesco (written 1959). The Red Octopus Theater Company staged the play at the Marine Sciences Center in Newport, OR. Bartow was a constant reader, this is one of the earliest known examples of Bartow's "transformation" type drawing and taking inspiration from literature for his art. Framed with natural maple, rag mat and UV3 Plex.
