Boraz reveals: "Knees Together" was created from one of my earliest memories as a child: sitting on stage during a performance at my religious day school with my legs splayed like the boys, and my teacher gesturing with two index fingers and mouthing the instruction to put my “knees together”. In this image, I created an older woman to reflect how those early messages continue to translate throughout our lives, reminding us that it is our job to keep our bodies private rather than expecting society to respect our privacy. The piece also speaks to how those expectations teach women to take up less space.
