"I want to spend my days doing what I can with all my heart and soul."
The solo exhibition Takahiko Hayashi's Breath of Life, Breath of Line features new paintings on parchment and celebrates 25 years of representation at Froelick Gallery. Hayashi’s compositions are known for fluidly patterned lines drawn from the observed natural world and inspired by the perceived ethereal life. His works are often described as representing flowing water, vining roots, feather plumes, windy torrents or floral rosettes. All hand drawn, his works are filled with fine precision and loose organic gestures. Gardening and poetry influence his worldview.
A book published by Froelick Gallery and The Japan Artists Association, will accompany this exhibit.
Takahiko Hayashi received his BFA in Oil Painting from Musashino Art University in 1985 and his MFA in Printmaking from Tokyo National University of Arts in 1987, both in Japan. Hayashi lives and works in the Saitama-ken region outside of Tokyo, Japan. Hayashi’s work has been featured in over 140 solo shows worldwide since 1985, as well as an impressive number of group exhibitions. Public institutions that have collected Hayashi’s artwork include the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia; Kurobe City Museum of Art, Japan; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California; the Museum of Modern Art, Japan; the Portland Art Museum and more.
"I try to create something from nothing. I try to capture negative to represent positive. I try to express the present with history, and east and west. It is when objects exist that nothingness can be recognized for the first time." -Takahiko Hayashi
