Magpies, crows, owls, sparrows, and hawks play center stage here along with appearances by coyote, bull, deer and of course, a frog!
We are presenting choice works that have never been exhibited, some that have great exhibition histories outside of the region, and several transformation self portraits. The show includes paintings, drawings and a few prints that date from 1989 to 2015.
Four works are homage to artists that Rick admired- including a self portrait in honor of Frida Kahlo; a hawk in honor of Fritz Scholder; a transformational self portrait with tip of the hat to Francis Bacon; and a bull man in honor of Francisco Toledo. Works in the show are on a range of special papers- cotton rag and fiberous, handmade, vintage and new papers from Japan and Mexico.
