Conceived and organized by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon, in cooperation with Froelick Gallery, this retrospective exhibition represents nearly forty years of work. Rick Bartow: Things You Know But Cannot Explain features over 100 sculptures, paintings, drawings and prints dating back to 1979 that were drawn from public and private collections, including the artist's studio. The exhibition affirms his regional, national, and international impact and culminates in outstanding examples of Bartow's most recent work, which evidenced a new freedom of scale and expression.
Accompanying the exhibition is a fully illustrated catalog, with excellent essays by co-curators Jill Hartz, executive director, and Danielle Knapp, associate curator, and by Lawrence Fong, curator emeritus of American and regional art at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. The catalog is available for purchase at each venue, thru Heyday Books, and through Froelick Gallery.
