This 1994 monotype depicts the buildings at Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts in Pendleton, OR. James Lavadour founded Crow's Shadow in 1992, and soon afterwards Tom Prochaska and Christy Wyckoff donated a Ray Trayle Printing Press, set it up and helped kick-start Crow's Shadow great printmaking studios.
Crow's Shadow Institute is located inside the historic St. Andrew's Mission school building on the Umatilla Reservation. St. Andrews was founded in it's current location in the 1860s - when the St. Anne's Mission relocated and re-established there, following the 1847 Whitman Massacre. The St. Andrew's school began operations in the early 20th century.
