"Sana Sana Colita de Rana" is a short nursery rhyme or lullaby that many Mexican parents use to console a child who has been hurt. "Sana sana, colita de rana - si no sana hoy, sanara mañana" translates to, "heal heal, frogs tail - if it doesn't heal today, it will heal tomorrow". While singing the rhyme, the parent lightly rubs and comforts where their child has been injured, and when the rhyme is over, there is usually a surprise tickle. The mix of sensory distraction and the soft lullaby usually deflects the child from whatever discomfort they were in and almost always transforms their crying into a heartwarming laugh.

V. Maldonado has two daughters who are now teenagers. Journeying through parenthood as a nonbinary person, V has found comfort in knowing they too can "mother". They believe the act of "mothering" should not be limited to a parent's gender.
