Bartow carved this wooden, self-portrait transformation mask, and chose to keep it unpainted. A bird with orange glass bead eyes and mouth wide open is in flight directly above the face, it is attached with two pegs to the top of the forehead. The face has a lower human section and an upper animal section- all part of the same piece of wood. It has a total of 5 (five) eyes. A prominent feature is the protruding tongue inspired by Bartow's time spent with Maori artists in New Zealand. This mask is wired to hang on a wall.
