Bartow made almost 200 floral works that are known. This delicately drawn and painted work is from a series Bartow refered to as "spent passions." Bartow painted this passion flower on a handmade paper that partially stained and then attached onto a larger piece of handmade Japanese paper that was thoroughly stained redish brown- with kakishibu persimmon tannin dye.
