Artists' Commentary printed on the last page of the book: "In February, 2001, we engaged in five days of experimentation with the process of using sugar-lift to produce intaglio prints. During this time, we created thirty-three images and, to our delight, discovered a bestiary within. We selected eight prints by each of us to create a collection of sixteen images. The collection appears in two forms: one as a portfolio of individual prints and the other as an artists' book (edition of 6 with 2 artist's proofs) accompanied by original drawings. Although the majority of the prints use sugar lift, there are also examples of drypoint, aquatint, and line etching."
