Stephen O'Donnell: Gods and Foolish Grandeur

A Selection of Paintings
Stephen O'Donnell, 2009

The artist’s self-published Gods and Foolish Grandeur includes large, full color reproductions of dozens of paintings, behind-the-scenes glimpses of works in progress, as well as short essays discussing the artist’s explorations within the portrait historié genre, which as the artist points out, was a favorite conceit of the Dutch masters and frequently employed by European court painters of the 17th and 18th centuries.
