Winter Group Exhibition: of Froelick Gallery Artists

4 - 29 February 2020
Kris Hargis, Self in Red Stocking Cap, 2019

Froelick Gallery's annual Winter Group Exhibit presents fresh and selected works from our represented artists, highlighting the breadth of media and depth of content they engage with. Distinct veins of portraiture and abstraction run through this exhibition. Among those included are Emma Gerigscott's intertwining, Fauvist-inspired paintings of horses and dogs, created during a recent monthlong residency in Wyoming; Katherine Ace's small grid paintings of faces, examining global notions of the “typical woman”; V. Maldonado's monumental, anguished abstract canvas confronting the plight of imprisoned children at the U.S./Mexico border; Lli Wilburn's nocturnal, iridescent scenes of local waterways on glass panels; Jake Scharbach's composite paintings of faces assembled from slices of art history, current events, and trash; Kris Hargis's introspective pastel self-portraits; Gwen Davidson's evocative painted collaged beach scene, Jim Denomie's intensely-colored faces of Native people. Longtime gallery artists Laurie Danial and Tom Prochaska show the fruit of an ongoing painting collaboration, fusing their individual brushstrokes, color and compositional sensibilities.

These and more wonderful works in this exhibition constitute a snapshot of the artists that we are proud to work with as we enter into our 25th anniversary year.
