Days after Froelick artist Laura Ross-Paul’s artwork appears on Huffington Post, Katherine Ace gets her own mention! Katherine's work appears on the cover of poet John Bradley's recent book, You Don't Know What You Don't Know, one of the book covers selected as one of the 25 outstanding covers of 2010.
Editorial Director Michael Dumanis writes: “John Bradley was already a fan of the artist Katherine Ace and gave us a selection of her artwork to choose from. Thinking about the way John's poems often went on a striking rampage across the page, subverted the reported of various current events, and challenged the notion of how a text communicated, I selected the image of Ace's, "In the Beginning," that to me best illustrated the book, and John agreed. This cover proved challenging. The image was too large and I wanted the focus to be on the newspapers. The designer, Amy Freels, used details from the artwork, which she layered to enhance the color. Because this involved changing the image, she worked closely with Katherine to produce the cover in a way that satisfied both her and John. Katherine was excited about having her art on the cover, and was very gracious to work with. I am particularly pleased with how John's name comes through in the smoky light over the newspapers, and how the black of the background and the red of the title font serve to visually complement the artwork.”
