About the Artists:

Known for her geometric abstractions referencing architectural spaces, Gwen Davidson's recent works have begun to explore the natural world. Speaking to both her skills as a draughtsman and her devotion to the abstracted image, her collages are a synthesis of the recognizable and the obscured landscape. Referencing an exact locale is central to this technique, but the focal point is drawn from specifics to generalities, allowing the spatial relationships to define the landscape while texture and color take a more central role.

Biography:

Davidson received her MFA from Portland State University in 1987. Exhibiting in the Pacific Northwest since 1981, she has been exhibiting at Froelick Gallery since 1996. Bruce Guenther, former Chief Curator at the Portland Art Museum, selected her for inclusion in the 2001 Oregon Biennial. Her work is found in numerous public and corporate collections including: the cities of Seattle and Portland, King County Justice Center, State Employment Building, Salem, OR, Intuit Corp., Lucent Technologies, and Willamina Lumber Co.
