"A shifting of emphasis from figurative-narrative to less representational imagery is evident in my projects over the past decade. Given the innumerable examples of confusing imagery inherent in our relative experiences of the world, it would stand to reason that the value of abstraction is intrinsic. I pay at least as much attention to imagery that is confusing as I do to developing narrative, metaphor, or allegory. I enjoy taking the liberty to phrase and compose in a visual vernacular that will remain personal, encrypted. I’m not inventing symbols and I recognize that one stands to benefit from acknowledging the power of shared consciousness maintained in iconography." |
